Description: The Opportunity Join an award-winning, national, charitable organization focused on education and outreach to support youth development. Let’s Talk Science creates and delivers unique learning programs and services that engage children, youth and educators in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Let’s Talk Science has excited, inspired and engaged more than 3 million children, youth, educators and volunteers in STEM since its inception. The Secondary Science Online Learning Intern (CurioCité) will work from a home office or an office in London and report remotely to an Education Specialist and Director, Education Services. Responsible for: Assist with the development of educator and students resources for CurioCité . This could include: • Developing Starting Points/ Points de départ for CurioCité articles (educator resources designed help educators use CurioCité content to engage students with science and technology topics) • Creating interactive white board activities for secondary students and educators based on existing CurioCité educator resources • Developing curriculum-aligned case studies related to themes on CurioCité • Creating public content for CurioCité, including writing articles and sourcing videos • Developing professional learning resources to support development of critical thinking skills and understanding of STSE (relating science and technology to society and the environment) in secondary science and technology classrooms
Skills: Requirements of the position • Some post-secondary studies with a focus in the Education field • Fully bilingual (English/French), both oral and written • Strong interest in primary or secondary science and technology education, particularly STSE aspects; experience teaching at this level an asset • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel • Knowledge of electronic whiteboard software (e.g., SMART Notebook) • Familiarity with working with curriculum and how it is applied in developing lesson plans • Working knowledge of Internet applications; comfort with technology and an ability to learn new software • Naturally organized, self-starter with excellent communication and editing skills • Comfortable working at a distance and with virtual communication tools (email, phone, skype etc.) • Interest in working in non-profit sector and science education Skills and Experience the Secondary Science Online Learning Intern (CurioCité) will gain: • An understanding of curriculum’s role in program development in the informal education sector • Interpersonal skills, working in a team environment • Communication, organizational and computer skills • Experience working within the informal education sector for a not-for-profit organization We invite you to visit our website (www.parlonsscience.ca) to learn more about our organization.
